Team Paradise Goals (2010-11)

• Build a strong, cohesive team while integrating the 20-30 new members we’ve obtained this year.
o Fun team building activities.
o Educate new members about FIRST robotics.
o Sharpen all members’ basic engineering skills and use them for real world applications (building robots).
o Delegate more responsibility to various sub-teams and student leaders.
o Since we are the only High School in the Paradise Valley Unified School District with a FIRST Robotics team, we welcome students from other high schools who might want to participate with us.

• Competitions
o Arizona Regional (for sure).
o National FIRST Robotics Competition (We’ve signed up but it depends on funds).
o Other Regionals – in some future year we would like to attend the San Diego or Las Vegas Regional Competition (this also depends on funds available).

• More community involvement.
o Finish our T-shirt shooting robot and use it at home football games.
o Have a presence at other school activities and functions.
o Develop a set of ‘Science and Technology’ trading cards to be used as promotional hand-outs and to advance the idea of science and technology leaders as ‘Heroes.’
o Make contact with local Middle Schools and sponsor one or more FIRST Lego League teams at that level.
o Identify and participate in community service projects.

• Submit entries for the following award categories:
o Web Design
o Safety Animation
o Chairman’s Award
o AutoCAD Award

• Business Plan
o Develop a published, comprehensive business and marketing plan.
o Make a concerted effort to solicit ‘Tax Credit’ donations from the general public as well as friends and family.
o Identify and solicit corporate/business sponsorship.
o Start a tax deductible Parent Booster Club for the Robotics Club.
o Hold student fundraising activities such as car washes and a garage sale.

• Funding
o Our minimum operating budget to attend the Arizona Regional is about $7000 ($5000 entry fee, $2000 for other parts, transportation, etc.).
o We currently have about $3500 in our account.
o Many of our other goals can be achieved with minimal additional funding.
o Some of our goals such as participation in the National competition, sponsorship of a Lego League Team and printing of the trading cards will depend heavily on our ability to obtain additional funding.
